All area residents are invited to celebrate the Greene County Community Center’s 20th anniversary Friday, Nov. 16. The Jefferson park and recreation department staff and board has planned a variety of activities for all ages.
To start the celebration, all fitness classes will be free Monday through Friday, Nov. 12-16. “This will be a great chance to try something new,” JPRD director Vicky Lautner said.
There is no school Nov. 16, so students in grades K-6 are invited for Art on the Fly guided painting with Jolene Peters from 1 to 2:30 pm. There’s a $20 charge for the class and all youngsters must be registered by Nov. 14 so supplies can be purchased.
A brief picture presentation will be held at 3 pm in the community center lobby.
Starting at 3 pm, half the gym will be set up for beach volleyball, with JPRD supplying the beach balls. The other half will be set up for family games and a short obstacle course. The corn hole boards will be out and the treadwall will be available for climbing.
Sampler 30-minute classes are scheduled as follows: 4:30 – yoga; 5 – Xtreme Fit; 5:30 – step aerobics; 6 – Zumba; and 6:30 – yoga.
Supper will be served from 5:30 to 7. HyVee and the Greene County Cattlemen are providing food and Jefferson Rotarians will serve. Donations will be accepted for the JPRD’s future programming.
The family-friendly movie “Mulan” will be shown at 7 pm, sponsored by Wells Fargo. The AKTION Club will have popcorn available.
The Community Center will be open from 5 am to 10 pm that day.
Daily admission for non-members will be free Friday through Sunday, Nov. 16-18. All are invited to sign-up for a drawing for a free individual membership. The drawing will be held Nov. 19.
“The community center has proven to be a great asset for everyone in the community, from toddlers to seniors, and we think it’s something to celebrate. We hope to see a lot of people next week,” Lautner said.
